PEOPLE YOU SHOULD
KNOW
Larry C.
Smith
Title: Director, American Bar
Association
Law Practice
Management Section
Contact Info: 312.988.5661
750 N. Lake Shore Drive, 10th Floor Chicago, IL

Industry Involvement: I have recently
been named Director of the American Bar Association’s 19,000+ member
Law Practice Management Section. The Section provides programs,
services, publications, and periodicals on law practice marketing
and other core practice management issues (management, finance, and
technology), and sponsors ABA
TECHSHOW®, the ABA’s legal technology conference. Prior to
joining ABA management, I was active for many years in national,
state, and local bar associations.
Background: I have eighteen years of
professional experience, both as an attorney and principal
consultant with Law Office Consulting Services, Inc. I have
been a frequent author and CLE presenter on law practice management
and law office technology topics and have worked closely with
vendors that provide services and products for the legal community,
and I look forward to continuing those relationships with the ABA. I
am a graduate of the University of Tennessee and the University of
Colorado School of Law.
Hobbies: Skiing, tennis, travel – it’s
healthy to enjoy your life outside the office!
Pet Peeve: Thinking in these terms: “that
can’t be done” or “that’s not the way we do things around here.”
Lawyers and firms should work toward creatively solving challenges
and seeking the right resources outside their immediate
expertise.
